Welcome to My Personal Page
On September 11, a handful of my rugby mates and I will be participating in this years YWCA WALK A MILE IN HER SHOES. For those unaware, this campaign is aimed at raising funds for the YWCA to aid in their domestic violence and recovery programs.
Every woman deserves to be safe in her own house.
Every child deserves a healthy, loving home.
Every family in need deserves the help to break the cycle of violence.
On a somewhat personal note, both of my parents have worked in the domestic/family violence prevention space. This topic hits somewhat close to home for me knowing my parents have worked with people throughout a good portion of their lives who unfortunately have been victims of domestic violence. It's unfortunately a real thing, and I want to help make a stronger contribution in this space and show I'm taking a stance against domestic violence with the rest of my mates.
One misconception I've seen regarding domestic violence/abuse is that some people generally associate it with only physcal harm. It isn't. Violence/abuse can extend beyond physical harm, including emotional and mental. Words can be just as violent or abusive, and can even have much longer lasting effects. I also want to help break this misconception that violence/abuse is just limited to physical means.
You can help make a difference in this space by putting in a donation Your gift will help directly support YWCA Edmonton and its domestic violence prevention and recovery programs. All donations made before September 1 will be matched up to 50% through Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink.
Did I also mention I'll in fact be walking a mile in a pair of high heels (and I may have a pair already picked out for my beautiful size 12 hobbit feet)?
